We offer sensible, unhurried advice, at the clinic or when possible by telephone, on preventative health care.
We have a pragmatic approach to both diagnostics and treatments. Our objective is to inconvenience our patients as little as is possible.
We understand that there are some circumstances in which urgent medications or treatments are needed and others in which it is best to keep interventions to a minimum.
We emphasise the health value of obedience training for dogs and also for cats. A well trained dog that obeys commands is less likely to be injured. An outdoor cat trained to meow when called is easier to find if he or she goes missing.
We promote the life-extending benefits of weight management. A life-long study in Labradors showed that dogs kept thin lived on average 18 months longer than their heavier brothers and sisters.
We extol the value of prevention. Preventing medical conditions or catching them early, saves discomfort, inconvenience and money.
When you visit, please remember, the clinic reception area, may on occasion resemble a zoo. Most dogs enjoy this stimulating environment but for any cats (or dogs) that prefer a more restful and quiet ambience we have a special ‘quiet’ reception room (where the smell of brewing coffee may relax you too).
Our clinical facilities including x-ray, ultrasound, microscopy, endoscopy, anaesthesia, life-monitoring and a well-equipped surgical suite are always maintained to high standards. These amenities help to create the best environment for speedy, accurate diagnoses and treatments. We provide same day results on all blood samples taken before noon and provide a similar same day service for vital samples taken later in the day.

All of us at the Portman Veterinary Clinic have decades of experience working with dogs, cats and their owners. Our extensive veterinary and perhaps unique nursing experience simplifies our approach to caring for your pet.
For both diagnostic procedures and for treatments we ask ourselves:
